We are His and He is ours.

Luke 1:4: “So that you may realize the certainty of the teachings you have received.”

In the Gospel of Luke, we find an invitation of reassurance in the Love of God in the Church. My scripture professor in the seminary provided another translation here: “I want to reassure you that you belong here.” Luke begins his Gospel narrative by expressing a purpose: to provide reassurance about the teachings that believers do belong to God.

How often do we wonder if we truly belong? In a world that can be so quick to isolate, compare, and exclude, the feeling of being “on the outside looking in” can creep into our hearts. But this verse assures us that we belong with God. The teachings we have received are not mere stories. They are truths rooted in divine love that draws us closer to God.

Belonging with God is not about achieving perfection or meeting certain standards. It is about trusting the promises He has made to us through His Word, no matter if we have failed a thousand times in the past. The certainty of our faith is rooted in the reality that God’s love for us is unwavering. When doubts arise, we can turn to the Gospel, to the Holy Family, to prayer, and to the Eucharist to be reassured of this profound truth: we are His, and He is ours.

This week, take a moment to reflect on the teachings of Christ that have shaped your journey. Reflect on the ways they have brought you peace, purpose, and belonging. Consider journaling your reflections or sharing them with a trusted friend or family member. Allow the words of Luke 1:4 to echo in your heart, reminding you of the firm foundation of belonging to God.
