“Do whatever he tells you.”

“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Without the servants who filled the water jars, there would have been no miracle at the wedding feast of Cana. I’m sure they didn’t think much of the task given to them, but Jesus chose to show his glory through their humble service.

Next Sunday, January 25, we have our annual Ministry Fair from 8:00 am-12:30 pm in the Activities Center. This is a great opportunity to get to know the various ministries and organizations that serve our parish community.

It is also an occasion to prayerfully consider the “spiritual gifts” that the Lord has given you “for some benefit.”

At times we might think little of what we ourselves have to offer. We appreciate the gifts of others when we are served or instructed or fed through them. But we might think they are special, and somehow different from us. In fact, they are simply trusting and willing. Anyone can fill a jar of water. But unless someone actually does fill it, it remains empty and dry.

Ask the Lord what gifts he has given you for the benefit, and don’t be afraid to “do whatever He tells you.” The servants didn’t change water into wine – Jesus did. But he asked them to participate and witness this marvel. He continues to do so with us. Ask Mary to help you be willing and ready to hear what your Son speaks to you, and to do whatever He asks.

“Living Stones”

In recent months, you may have attended Mass or a Holy Hour accompanied by “Living Stones”. This music ensemble offers our youth an opportunity to share their gifts in the service of the Lord. The name comes from 1 Peter 2:5 – “Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” Any youth who are interested in joining the ensemble can contact the parish office or talk with Fr. Tom, Fr. Nathan or Br. Miggo after Mass.

Here is the schedule of upcoming services that will be accompanied by Living Stones:

  • Sunday, February 2 – 10:45 Mass
  • Monday, February 24 – 6:00 pm Welcome the Week with Worship
  • Sunday, March 2 – 10:45 Mass
  • Sunday, April 6 – 10:45 Mass
  • Wednesday, May 7 – 6:00 pm Holy hour
  • Sunday May 18 – 10:45 am Mass
